We used dry ice for potions class
All the kids dressed up in their robes and scarves. Don't they look cute :)
Summary of party:
On the door I had brick paper and a sign that said platform 9 3/4 and gave each child an invitation with a ticket for the hogwarts express.
We had the sorting hat (borrowed from a neighbor - thanks Crystal!) All of the kids chose Gryffindor like I expected since I had sewn on Gryffindor tags on black t-shirts (for their robes) and Gryffindor scarves. We also gave them their wands.
We did a quiz about Harry Potter stuff. After that, we did potions class - with dry ice (goblin crystal). The kids loved that! I also had bottles of potions around for decor.
Next we did Defense against the Dark Arts class - which was stomping the dementors (black balloons). We saw who could pop the balloons the fastest.
Next class was Spells. I gave them each a book of spells. We practiced Wingardium Leviosa with their wands and trying to keep white balloons afloat.
Then we did Care of Magical Creatures - pin the tail on the Thestral.
The last class was Divination. I had gotten tea cups and glued a symbol on the bottom with mint leaves and then covered it up. So they dumped out the leaves on the top and had to decipher what their symbol meant. I had a small book for each of them with the meanings of the symbols.
We had honeydukes with fake butter beer, bertie botts every flavor bean, dumbledore's lemon drops, pixie sticks, licorice wands, chocolate frogs (complete with boxes), slytherin snakes, fizzing whizzbees, droobles best blowing gum, hufflepuff's delight (marshmallows), and cake and ice cream.
I gave them a certificate of completion at the end for completing all the classes.
